The Writing Community

Hello and welcome everyone!

Welcome back to the second installment of this writer’s guide. Today I wanted to go over something rather important when you’re a writer, something I didn’t know about until years into my own journey. The Writing Community.

Let’s start off with the unfortunate stereotype that writers are shut ins who would rather cut off their own toes (of course it has to be the toes, we need our fingers after all) than to interact with society. While it is true that a lot of writers are introverts or suffer from anxiety which can make socializing more difficult, there are also extroverted people who thrive on interacting with others. Whichever side of things you reside on it’s important to note that forming connections with others can help you along the way to achieving your goal. As it would turn out writing, just like with any other goal, does well to have a support system to help urge you along when the going gets rough.

It’s bizarre right? Nine years ago I started off on this journey and went six of those years struggling through it alone. Watching AuthorTubers succeed while I grappled with trying to make even the first chapter of my story work. It was discouraging but I never gave up, then three years ago while forcing myself to begin the process of starting a writer platform I stumbled upon the writing community hashtag on Twitter.

It was there that I learned a couple very important things.

1. No matter what you fool yourself into believing, you are not on this journey alone.

2. Writing isn’t a solo endeavor.

Because of what I learned through the Writing Community I had more appreciation for my own work instead of basing my own journey off of someone else’s. The people in the Writing Community are so supportive and encouraging, not to mention there is always someone around if you have a question regarding anything whether writing related or not. It can be so easy to fooling yourself into believing you have to do it all on your own and that even if you do trust someone they’re just going to try and snag your hard work for their own. That was another thing that was harder for me to come to terms with as I’ve had my ideas (fanfiction related) stolen before but I quickly learned that the folks in the Writing Community have more than enough of their own ideas that they don’t need anyone else’s.

In the grander scheme of things joining the Writing Community will only serve to help you. I’ll cover more on just why that is in a post coming in February but for now, you’ll just have to trust my word.

I apologize for this post being so short but things are more than a little busy at the moment. If your curiosity has been peaked though, I highly suggest you go and give the Writing Community a look. Any platform will do although I happen to prefer Twitter.

Until next week!

✿ Happy reading and writing to all and to all a good day ✿
