Hello and a very loving Friday to you all!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I’m breaking out the book of cliches and covering a loved themed topic today. In honor of this day of love what better way to celebrate then by announcing my ten favorite romance tropes?
Ready those love arrows and let’s get started!
Cinnamon Roll x Grumpy Gills
There are few things more adorable than a grouchy character being cold to everyone else yet has a soft spot for the little cinnamon roll. 🥰
Friends to Lovers
This is something else I find cute, at least if done the right way but if done wrong it just feels forced.
Fake Relationship
This trope amuses me more than anything. It always makes me smile to think that as much as the pair is pretending to be a couple and there are “totally” no authentic feelings they can’t help but to fall for one another.
Destined To Be Together
Is there nothing better than the thought of being destined to be with someone? To know that person was made to love you and you to love them? It just feels me with all the fluttery feels.
Amnesia
I enjoy this trope in a more angst driven way. I’ve written fanfiction following this trope and have plans to follow it in some original work as well. I know this trope is mainly driven by the “s/he forgot who she was and now this hero/ine is here to help and they fall in love in the process” but I prefer the route of “they were in love and something happens to make him/her forget that love, now it’s a struggle to make them fall in love again or lose them forever.” I live for it, the good, the bad, and the heartbreaking!
Military
I feel a little bias for this trope seeing as I use it in Reaper. I have a special place in my heart for this as I love the risk that comes with it. This trope hits all the heartstrings for me and I adore the added effect of making every moment count.
Sudden Baby
This trope is a favorite of mine in a completely platonic way. There’s just about a person stepping up to take care of a child that isn’t theirs whether a step-child, a niece/nephew, or even a sibling. It just warms my heart.
Second Chance
I know, I know. “Some people don’t deserve a second chance” but other times it can lead to something beautiful. Things may not work out the first go round because both parties have some growing up to do and need to experience some things before they’re ready to accept that love and everything it can become. I love to see how romances like this turn out because there’s something to be said for it.
Enemies to Lovers
To be honest I don’t know why I enjoy this trope so much. I think it may have something to do with the Dragonian series by Adrienne Woods. I love the evolution of “I hate you” to “I DON’T love you” to “I hate that I love you” and finally ending with “I love you more than anything”. I love watching that evolution and everything it comes with.
Fairytale
Retellings are always a favorite of mine and I love the countless ways a classic fairytale can be worked.
Well there you have it folks. This felt a little more personal than it should have been. Oh well. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. I’ll catch you all next week with my first book review of the year.
Until next week!
Happy reading and writing to all and to all a good day!!
