Hello and welcome on this never ending Friday!
The third week of NaNoWriMo is drawing to end. If you’re like me then you’ve been struggling to break down that third week wall and are excited to bid this week farewell. It’s no secret that this NaNoWriMo is unlike any other and because of that it can be difficult to maintain the same level of motivation.
Accountability can really help keep a fire lit under us when things become difficult. Because of the situation of the world right now finding someone to keep you accountable might be a little difficult to come by. I’m here today to talk about ways to maintain that accountability.
A Friend
I’m aware that not everyone has someone in their immediate life they can turn to when it comes to their writing. I know plenty of writers who keep their writing a secret from everyone in their personal lives. However, the internet is filled with an endless amount of ways to connect with people all over the world meandering along on the writers journey as well. All you have to do is ask and there are many people ready and willing to become critique partners.
Social Media
Maybe dealing with someone one on one isn’t really your thing. That’s perfectly fine. You can always create a writer’s social media account and make daily posts on your platform about your goals during November. You would be surprised how motivating it can be knowing that and endless amount of people can see your success or failure. Likewise, people on any platform are always supportive and encouraging.
(Virtual) Write-Ins
Continuing on with the NaNoWriMo tradition of write-ins but with a virtual twist of course. Most MLs over on NaNoWriMo are working endlessly to try and keep this November as normal as possible. Unfortunately we may not be able to get together in person with the fellow writers of our region but the internet truly is a wonderful thing. Virtual Write Ins are just as fun and effective as ones in person with the added bonus of staying in your pajamas while you talk with fellow writers in your community. Just knowing there are others out there fighting the same fight as you can help alleviate some of that pressure that comes with NaNoWriMo and 50,000 words.
Rewards
Lastly I have an old favorite. Setting yourself rewards can be a great way to keep you motivated when you feel like turning in because you know that if you don’t get x amount of words then you don’t get that new sweater or candy bar. It’s not exactly great for accountability but recharging that motivation is just as effective.
We have one week to go my fellow WriMos. We can do it! Don’t let self doubt, a slipping word count, or anything else keep you from achieving your dreams.
Until next week!
✿ Happy reading and writing to all and to all a good day ✿
