Hello and a very delightful Friday to you all!
September is nearly halfway over meaning that Preptober is fast approaching. With that knowledge and my own anxieties I thought today would be a good day to share with you some free apps for writers. This isn’t going to be a very extensive list but there are six free apps that I hope you’ll find as helpful as myself and other writers do.
➀. Kanbana
This app puts the power of a kanban board at your fingertips. I personally use it to organize my goals in monthly, weekly, and daily incriminates but this app could also be used for story boarding. If you were to use it in a story boarding format it would give you an outlook of the flow of each of your acts. At some point I would love to give this format a try as well even if its main purpose is to organize goals.
➁. Spotify
This is more of a personal preference, in truth any music player will do. Even if you aren’t the type to listen to music while writing it couldn’t hurt to make your story its own playlist. Not only is it a good reference for whenever you’re feeling stuck while writing but readers are always eager to get a better feel for a story through music.
➂. Grammarly
I personally feel that every writer should use at least one editing app. Grammarly is great for helping you through that first round of self edits, especially if you’re feeling kind of lost. There’s also an option for it to read it out to you so that you can get a better feel for the flow of your story, definitely useful when it comes to dialogue.
➃. Evernote
This is a great tool for keeping your ideas organized. It’s great for jotting ideas or scenes down on the go. It can also be used as something like an aesthetic board.
➄. Google Docs
This isn’t something I personally use but I know that a lot of writers swear by it. This allows you to write your story is a safe place where it will be backed up. On top of that, once you reach the beta reading portion of your journey you will be able to send the doc to each of them and everyone can see what the others are saying thus eliminating the need to go through multiple docs at the same time, some of which may say the same thing.
➅. Todoist
This last one on our list also happens to be the newest addition to my writerly tools. Admittedly this isn’t exactly a writing tool but it is a great was to keep organized.
I personally use this app to keep my writing and platform goals separate from the rest of my goals. The best part is that within each project folder you can have set goals for each project. For my type A personality this is one of my favorite apps I’ve come across this year.
As I said, this isn’t a very long list but I do hope you have found at least one of these things helpful in your writing journey. I make another list like this in the future with more apps that you all may find useful.
Until next week!
✿ Happy reading and writing to all and to all a good day ✿
