Hello and a very happy Autumn Friday to you all!
As writers we are constantly looking for ways to improve our writing. Even for those currently in the editing phase there is still room for improvement Here are some things I’ve come across that may be able to help you improve your writing.
Read
I know it’s said as though on a broken record but read! I know there’s a huge debate over formats of reading but I would strongly recommend giving both audiobooks and traditional books/e-readers a try. Traditional books and e-readers give a sense for a book’s format while an audiobook can give you a sense of the flow and how things are spoken.
Write
Write as much as you can. It doesn’t have to be writing towards your WIP, even writing short stories or fanfiction can help you build up your writing style and help you to hone your writing skills.
Read Writing Craft Books
I know it doesn’t sound like the most thrilling thing to do but it real can help expand your knowledge of the craft. I myself am reading up on grammar and punctuation. It can never hurt to refresh your mind.
Take A Workshop
Workshops are another great way to help hone your writing skills. If you think like I do then you may be concerned about how expensive some workshops can be. I promise that there are affordable workshops and better still, if you search hard enough you may stumble across some that are free. It’s worth looking into.
Watch YouTube Videos
Let’s face it, in this day and age people are most likely to turn to YouTube before looking anywhere else. There are endless amounts of people in the writing community a part of Authortube regardless of what genre you’re writing in. Some of my favorites are Jenna Moreci, Kim Chance, and Sarra Cannon.
Your writing is never something that has to stay set in stone. As we grow and improve as writers our writing grows and improves with us. It’s always fun to give something new a try and if you’re also working towards achieving your goals that just makes it all the more better.
What are some of your tips and tricks to improving your writing?
Until next week!
✿ Happy reading and writing to all and to all a good day ✿
