Author Confession

Updated: Sep 11, 2019

Hello and a very merry Friday to all of you!

Though April is almost over it has brought with it many ups and downs, not just for me personally but world wide as well. I know I haven’t posted anything the past few weeks and that along with everything else is why I wanted to take this week to do something fun.

This month has been a very busy one for me so I wasn’t able to participate in the hashtag games I enjoy doing on Twitter but instead of just brushing them away with a sinking feeling of disappointment as I have done the past couple of months, I decided to take the opportunity to post one of them on my blog. I was intending to do all three but the others are supposed to be told from the view of the characters so I have something special in store for those. I thought this would be the perfect chance for you all to get to know myself and my story just a little bit more.

This particular game is the #AuthorConfession tag created by @jmsullivanbooks (https://mobile.twitter.com/jmsullivanbooks) and @jjulienauthor (https://mobile.twitter.com/jjulienauthor) on Twitter.

A fair warning before we start , there are some days missing as those are trivia days so I missed out on those but there’s still be had. And without further ado we begin!

4/1

Introduce yourself with your best prank/joke

Hey there! I’m Brianna Thompson. My humor is more of the sarcastic type but I do enjoy puns and/or really cheesy jokes soooo….The future, the past, and the present walked into a bar. Things got a little tense.

I can hear the crickets now. Oh well, it was better than any of the egg puns my sister and I shoot back and forth.

4/3

Complete the sentence, April showers bring May ___.

April showers bring May flowers.

Don’t judge me, I’ve been saying this all month so it’s hard to think of anything else.

4/5

What three items would your MC bring to a deserted island?

Well, Sarine always has a knife on her so that would have to count as one of her items. Two other things she would bring would be a book and a water bottle.

4/6

Where is your antagonist currently in your WIP?

Crow is currently at the Lullaby headquarters plotting out his next attack.

4/7

What are you using as a bookmark?

I can only read e-books and audiobooks both of which keep my place automatically so I don’t really use a bookmark. Though when working on things in my notebook I usually use a sharpie to hold my place.

4/8

How does your MC sleep at night?

Sarine has been left with PTSD that make it very difficult for her to sleep at all unless someone forces her to take the medicine she was prescribed.

4/10

What spring activities are your characters involved in?

There are two festivals that take place during the spring in Reaper, the festival of Winter\s Rest, a festival that takes place on the first day of spring each year which celebrates the end of winter, and the Festival of Flowers, taking place May 15th celebrating the blooming and sheer amount of flowers that grow within the Central walls.

4/12

Shout out to all the sparkly friends today!

Luckily today happens to be Friday and though I’ve never done a #ff of my own, here’s to giving it a shot….

@IonaCaldwell7

@DalCecilRuno

@RSpeaksWords

@moody_dumpling

@Faethyn

@HunterDPhoenix

@_KingKaterina

4/13

How long have you been working on your current WIP?

Consecutively or all together? Well all together I’ve been working on Reaper for about seven years. That being said, I have also stopped working on Reaper a number of times making this go around a good seven months. Recently I’ve had to change my outline some though I still feel like it’s the strongest outline I’ve had since Reaper’s creation.

4/14

Do you set deadlines for yourself?

I don’t set deadlines for myself but I do set word count goals for each month.

4/15

TAX DAY! How does your MC pay for their actions?

Sarine pays for her actions by losing a piece of herself mentally every time something happens that she wishes she could change. It isn’t very healthy but she isn’t exactly in a good place right now either.

4/17

Do you have a writing pet or mascot?

Share a pic or drawing.

All my pets, the three dogs and the cat, all tend to be near me while I’m writing so I guess in a way they’re all my writing pets and my mascots.

(From left to right….Bandit, Bear, Saber, and Leo)

4/19

Complete the sentence. All you need are books and ____.

All you need are books and tea….or an iPad.

4/20

What does your antagonist do on a rainy afternoon?

Most of Crow’s time is spent plotting ways to bring down the government. There is rarely a moment when he allows himself to relax but when he does allow himself free time everything he does is outside. If I had to choose something though, I would say that he would spend those afternoons trying to catch up on some much needed sleep.

4/21

Happy Easter!

Describe your antagonist’s perfect Sunday in three words

Destroying the government.

I know it seems like Crow is very one dimensional but there really is a lot more to him, his goals just happen to be centered around destroying the government and that’s what’s on his mind a majority of the time.

4/22

Share an aesthetic or inspiration for your antagonist.

It’s been so long that I can’t even remember where the idea for Reaper came from, let alone Crow but recently I’ve come across a character from an anime that seems to fit Crow rather nicely.

4/24

Share the best line you’ve written this week.

I haven’t written anything this week, I’ve been focusing on editing my outline and adjusting my story to keep in line with the new outline. Sorry.

4/26

Describe your WIP as a holiday or festival.

….um….Bastille Day? I mean Reaper does take place during a rebellion so it is the most fitting even though Bastille Day signaled a revolution.

4/27

Pitch us your latest release, WIP, or other work you may do.

My latest WIP is Reaper, here is the lovely little description.

In a nation consumed by blood and greed, the hands of Sarine Rivermount are stained red before she even has the chance to pledge herself to the crown. Upon finding herself trapped on a path she can’t escape, it’s all she can do to keep herself together. But when her world is turned upside down by war and love, she must make a choice that will change her life forever.

4/28

What is your MC’s most cherished momento?

Sarine’s most cherished memento is the necklace her older sister gave  her.

4/29

Share a motivational dance GIF to keep us all going.

Unfortunately I can't do this one from my computer, I'm sure there's a way but I'm not very good with tech Sorry again

I really do love these hashtag games, I only wish that I was more constant about posting them on Twitter but at least it allows me to share it with all of you and I do love sharing my writing journey with everyone. I would like to thank @jmsullivanbooks and @jjulienauthor for creating this tag and hopefully it’s not a problem that I posted my responses here rather than on Twitter.

Next week brings a new month so that means some new monthly goals as well as some new surprises. So stay tuned and I’ll see you all next week!

Just for some bonus fun, I’m ending this off with a picture of my new puppy. Say hello to Saber.

❀ Happy reading and writing to all and to all a good day ❀
